1. Understand the exam format and syllabus :

The UPSC exam is conducted in three stages: Prelims, Mains, and Interview. The Prelims exam consists of two objective type papers, while the Mains exam consists of nine descriptive papers. Study the syllabus in detail and understand it well, as this will determine the direction of your preparation.

2. Make a time management and study plan :

It is extremely important to make an organized and effective study plan. Include all the topics in your daily and weekly study plans and take out time for revision regularly. Evaluate your plan from time to time and make revisions as needed.

3. Choose the right study material :

Read NCERT books from class 6th to 12th, as they make the basic concepts clear.  Apart from this, study major reference books like ‘Indian Politics’ by Lakshmikant, ‘Indian Economy’ by Ramesh Singh, and other standard books. Special notes and material made for competitive exams can also be useful.

4. Newspapers and Current Affairs :

Read daily newspapers (like ‘The Hindu’ or ‘Indian Express’) and note down important events, government schemes, policies, and international affairs. Also stay updated with monthly current affairs magazines and government websites like PIB (Press Information Bureau).

5. Make Notes properly :

Making your own notes not only strengthens the memory but is also helpful for revision at the time of exam. Notes should be concise, neat and organized topic wise.

6. Focus on the Mock Test and solve the question paper of last year :

Solve the regular mock test and last year’s question paper. This will evaluate the preparation of your exam and improve the speed and accuracy of writing answers. Self-analyze and work on your weaknesses. 

7. Improve Writing Skills Habit to write:

Written answers for the main examination. Practice the answer in a timely manner and note the quality of your writing. Try to answer rational and consistent.

8. Select the optional subject to select the optional topic :

You must have your interest and understanding in this topic. Make detailed study and notes for alternative topic.

9. Keep in mind the mental and physical health :

For a long time in the preparation of UPSC, so it is very important to take care of mental and physical health. Follow regular exercise, meditation (meditation), and proper diet. This will increase stress and the ability to focus will increase.
